Before NDP, I never really watched the National Day Parade, but that completely changed when my cohort was selected to perform in it. From months of rehearsals to being one of two students chosen for the Presidential Handshake, the experience became so much more than a performance. It taught me perseverance and teamwork, making it one of my favourite memories from secondary school.
Piano is something I started in primary school, making it one of my longest commitments. There were undoubtedly many days when I felt like it was getting repetitive, but I'm glad I persevered. I later progressed to Grade 6. Piano taught me patience, discipline and that meaningful progress comes from showing up consistently, one practice session at a time.
This workshop had all the class committee members from different classes and levels to take on team challenges together. One of the challenges was building a newspaper hamster wheel with limited materials which taught me collaboration, creativity and communication.
This programme gave me my first hands-on experience creating media content as part of a team which showed me how ideas can be turned into content that connects with an audience. It was one of the experiences that strengthened my interest in pursuing Mass Communication.
Although learning how to ice skate wasn't easy, I'm glad I kept going until I earned my certification. It challenged my balance, coordination and perseverance but reminded me that improvement often comes from being willing to get back up after every fall.
Long months of SYF rehearsals required teamwork and commitment from everyone in the choir. Us all working towards a common goal taught me discipline, responsibility and the importance of supporting one another.
In OBS, I was selected for the sailing programme which pushed me way beyond my comfort zone. Every challenge required adaptability, trust and resilience. Although it was one of the toughest experiences I've had, it became one of the most rewarding lessons in teamwork and perseverance.
